Marlborough Cottage enjoys an enviable location, overlooking Berwick Bay and the mouth of the River Tweed. It is ideally positioned for a family beach holiday, being literally within a ‘stone’s throw’ of Spittal Beach.
Alternatively, you can use it as a comfortable base from which to explore the delights of the Borders, Northumberland and Berwickshire. The local bus service or a leisurely walk will take you into the town centre to experience the history of this one-time garrison town. The main-line train service can take you to Newcastle or Edinburgh in under an hour, where further exciting experiences await; or just sit in the lounge or at the patio table, look out to sea and relax!
The Cottage has been designed and appointed with the aim of providing you with all the comforts and conveniences you expect at home. It is the architect-designed conversion of what was originally the house-keeper’s rooms attached to Marlborough House – an early Victorian town-house – with a lounge extension added to take advantage of the stunning views; it incorporates high levels of insulation and energy conservation features, and has been fitted out and furnished to a demanding standard.
There is one double bedroom with a double wardrobe, dressing table and electric shaver point and a second triple containing a full-size double bed with a full-size single bed in a ‘bunk’ arrangement over – both rooms are equipped with wall-hung LCD TV’s. There is a large shower-room with a double-size cubicle provided with suction grips and an anti-slip mat, a fully-fitted galley kitchen incorporating a washer/dryer, dishwasher, fridge/freezer, built-in oven and halogen hob unit, microwave oven and ‘Nespresso’ coffee machine (coffee pods provided), leading to the lounge/diningroom which has an extending dining suite, a leather three piece suite with footstools, a 32” flat-screen TV with an extensive choice of satellite T.V. channels and a DVD player; a security-protected Wi-Fi connection is also provided.
Freshly-laundered bedding and towels (excluding beach towels) are provided, electricity and gas central-heating are included in the rental, subject to fair usage; for rentals longer than one week, a bedding and towel change are available each Saturday, together with a cottage ‘freshen-up’. Private off-road parking is provided adjacent to the cottage and there is a sheltered patio area with a table and chairs and garden bench. There is a convenience store ( Laidlaw’s) in the village where most basic needs will be met, plus rolls and pies baked on the premises, newspapers and a selection of magazines. There are a filling station and ASDA superstore in Tweedmouth (five minutes away by car) as well as a Tesco and Morrisons around the town; the Town bus service, which stops on Spittal Main Street, serves all of these supermarkets and deliveries can be arranged subject to the stores’ own terms. There is a street market in the town centre on Wednesdays and Saturdays. If you are arriving by train, there are many local taxi operators covering the area.
Marlborough Cottage will sleep up to five and is available to rent on a weekly basis Saturday to Saturday throughout the year; midweek and weekend breaks are available by arrangement.
